41st Elite-Auction of Foals and Broodmares

120 high quality foals had been selected by the team of the auction department of the Hanoverian Verband in Verden for the 41st elite foal and broodmare auction. The collection was in strong demand – at home and abroad. Two foals led the price range: a colt and a filly. Casanostra by Cadeau Noir and Fine Lady by Fürst Romancier, both excellent types and with very dynamic movements, sold at 27,000 Euro each. Hann.Pr.A. Pina Colada by Perigueux achieved the top price of the fine collection of broodmares – for 21,000 Euro she sold to customers from Germany.

Cadeau Noir x Lauries Crusadors xx is the top-class genetic combination in Casanostra (b. and exh.: Volker Bertram, Schollene). The striking black revealed an outstandingly elastic trot in the Niedersachsenhalle and enthused the audience. After an exciting bidding duel a renowned stallion rearer from the Verden area acquired this young talent. The same amount of money was spent for Fine Lady: This charming chestnut filly by Fürst Romancier/Warkant (b.: Rüdiger Löer, exh.: Maike Löer, Weste) stood out due to her excellent movements. She found a new home in Bavaria.

Spotify by Stanford/Fidermark (b. and exh.: Dr. Norbert Grittern, Heinsberg) was a valuable representative of the Rhenish Studbook and would almost have reached the top price, too. For 26,000 Euro this brown colt will grow up in Lower-Saxony. Also in the top group we find head number one, Daddy’s Darling by De Niro/Sandro Hit. The elegant black colt foal sold to Russia for 25,000 Euro. His breeder Gerold Gögele from Bleckede has been very successful at the Verden auctions for several years: At almost each auction he sold high quality foals at top prices. The collection of jumper foals was led by Gentleman by Galant de Semilly/Raphael (b. and exh.: Adolf Brunkhorst, Selsingen). Customers from Denmark acquired the athletic chestnut colt for 16,000 Euro.

With 8,470.58 Euro the average price paid for 119 foals was higher than last year. 37 candidates sold for 10,000 Euro or more. 65 Hanoverian and Rhenish foals will stay in Germany, 54 will leave the country. “Both breeders and exhibitors profit from this good price range. This is exactly what we were aiming at”, so breeding manager and managing director, Dr. Werner Schade.

In the fine collection of eleven broodmares, the jumper Hann.Pr.A. Pina Colada (b. and exh.: Wilhelm Gößling, Börger) was most sought after. Only a few days before the auction, her sire Perigueux had won the Grand Prix at Verden, ridden by Eva Bitter. Her dam St.Pr.St. Corny is by the top jumper Cornet Obolensky. Pina Colada is in foal to Kannan by Voltaire and customers from Schleswig-Holstein spent 21,000 Euro for this grey athlete. Customers from foreign countries showed much interest in the Hanoverian mares offered: Seven of them are going to cross the border, four stay in Germany. On  average they cost 12,091 Euro.

Auction manager Jörg-Wilhelm Wegener was very satisfied with the positive result of the auction in the almost full Niedersachsenhalle: “With 119 foals the August collection was a little smaller than in previous years. We may, however, not forget that we already sold 150 foals at the auctions in March, May and July.” The new auction system proved to be very good, too: “Due to the new system of selection, the collection was clearly more homogeneous as regards size, type and quality of movements. This was favourable for the exhibitors, and our customers from all over the world appreciated this innovation.”
